Joan Ross is the Field CISO for Fortinet. A technologist and security expert for more than 25 years, Joan started her career in cryptography and her leadership and collaboration comes from direct, hands-on experience, practice and research. Joan is the former chief security officer for two technology companies in the Pacific Northwest, optimizing controls and automation to meet the challenges, priorities and risks facing every security executive today. Her experience working with the U.S. Coast Guard for the 2010 Winter Olympics aided in enabling a priority-based, digital dashboard for critical events, featuring a comprehensive yet user-friendly approach to cyber incident response and training. Joan holds a Master of Science degree in Human Computer Design and Engineering from the University of Washington and serves on the Advisory Board of their Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity mentoring and developing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
